Paul Coffey as one of the most promising NHL player in the world (Part 2)

Career at NHL

In the first round of the 1980 draft, a talented young man was selected by Canadian club Avon Oilers as number six. It is a mutually beneficial deal. Oilmen have built a new team and Paul Coffey fits ideally with the chosen game model of the Canadian club.

Already in his first season, Coffey confidently won a spot in the first team. You can’t call a bright first season – only 32 points scored in the regular championship, plus 7 points in play-off matches. But the second season at adult level allows us to reveal more fully about potential. Coffey scored 89 points, which is a great result for this defender.

Having played during Edmonton’s summer 7, Paul Coffey moved to Pittsburgh Pittsburgh Penguins, where he was lucky again with his partners. The penguins gathered around their star Mario Lemieux, a group of like-minded people, players, honed for their actions. This is exactly what Coffey has. He is not difficult to join the Pittsburgh team and win another Stanley Cup with this club.

The career ends

Having played five seasons for The Penguins of Pittsburgh, Paul Coffey moved to the Los Angeles Kings. As time has shown, this transition can be called a mistake. After the attacking style of Pittsburgh, it was hard for Coffey to change lanes to another game model.

In addition, injuries are beginning to affect, resulting in a loss of speed. Paul continues to be one of the tournament’s best defenders, despite the fact that its performance has dropped markedly.

Next is the trip to Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia and finally to Boston. (Sauna Boston Bruins). Paul 39 years old due to numerous injuries did not achieve good results. In 18 matches, he only had 4 assists. The contract with Boston Bruins has been broken. At the age of forty, Coffey decided to end his professional career.

Achievements

For 20 years at NHL, Paul Coffey has established himself as a very versatile player. Speaking as a defender, where reliability is more valuable when playing in defending his own goals, Paul is still a very strong attacking player. Proof of this is scored 1531 points – the second number in NHL history among defenders.

Among his club accomplishments, four have won the Stanley Cup, in the Coffey national team three times becoming the owners of the Canadian Cup. Paul Coffey is a hockey player who received the James Norris Trophy award, being the best defender of the tournament three times at the end of the season. For outstanding accomplishments in 2004, Coffey was included in the Hockey Stadium.
